I created this garden last year whilst I was worried about my son's education because of his Autism. To take care of myself and manage my feelings of stress I single headedly, cut up, then slowly dug up, square sods of earth to create the flowerbeds. It took several days but it felt so good to mindfully focus on a project and find a physical place to release my stress.
A year later, when I painted the picture of the garden my daughter was flapping her wings and taking tentative steps to leave home. I painted the nursing Mother on the bench to gain a sense of perspective on the situation. Goodness one minute she was a babe in arms, next she is setting off. Where did the time go?
Our gardens hold so much of our histories. I wonder what stories does your garden hold for you?
